His sudden death silenced one of the country’s most polarizing, loud, and unmissable internet personalities. This is the story of a man who transitioned from an ordinary painter in the diaspora to a kingmaker of Ugandan online pop culture.

# From the Diaspora to Digital Stardom

Before becoming a household name, Isma Olaxese lived a relatively quiet life in Sweden, where he worked as a painter. However, the pull of his homeland and the untapped potential of social media brought him back to Uganda.

On May 6, 2023, the friction turned fatal. While traveling in his Toyota Hiace (Drone) vehicle near his residence in Kyanja—a Kampala suburb that has tragically seen similar high-profile assassinations—assassins intercepted him.

Gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, shooting Isma multiple times at close range. He died instantly at the scene, while his driver survived unharmed. The news of his assassination sent shockwaves across East Africa, triggering immense grief, political finger-pointing, and a profound conversation about the safety of digital creators.
